There are many pairs of words in nihongo with the same syllables

Both "rain" and "candy" are spelled with the syllables "ame." Please see the page on pitch accents, however; there is a way of hearing the difference in this case. Unfortunately, there are many pairs of words which do sound the same (more than in English), and you can only tell which is being said by context. In writing, they can be distinguished because they are spelled with different kanji.
just thinking

If you can see kana and kanji on other sites, and not on this one, then the most likely cause is that your browser is not automatically adjusting the character encoding when you visit this site.

Your browser should have a menu called something like "View", and a menu item labeled something like "Character Encoding". Switch the encoding to Unicode (UTF-8).

Hi Summer. The soba I've had has been very different from raamen. I would say it's as different as raamen and spaghetti. But try it if you have the opportunity! :)
Are soba noodles like ramen noodles????
