Alien-san,
Well, I think there are lots of verbs with "iru and eru, and you must memorize each of them about the conjugated way (if it's godan or ichidan verb). For example:
いる (iru - exist) - ichidan
要る (iru - need, want) - godan
着る (kiru - wear) - ichidan
切る (kiru - cut) - godan
As for eru-verbs, all of them might belong to the ichidan verb, but I'm not sure. I'll look
it up.
Later,
Shizu

alien-san,
Most verbs ending in -iru or -eru are ichidan. Here is a list of some common verbs ending in -iru or -eru which are godan:
散る(ちる)--fall, scatter
入る(はいる)--enter (also used for taking a bath)
走る(はしる)--run
要る(いる)--need, be necessary
帰る(かえる)--return
限る(かぎる)--limit, restrict
蹴る(ける)--kick
切る(きる)--cut
参る(まいる)--go, come (humble verb)
握る(にぎる)--grasp
知る(しる)--know, find out
I think the best way to remember these is to learn them along with their ます forms; for example, if you learn 走る and 走ります together, that will remind you that 走る is godan when you need another inflection of it.
There are other verbs like this which are not on the list above, but this is a good place to start. Notice that in the case of iru, kiru and kaeru, there are ichidan verbs with these dictionary form pronunciations as well (they have different kanji spellings, of course).

I do agree with Shizusan that it requires some memorization. But one thing that always helps is memorizing the "shorter list". Which basically means it would be wise to memorize the fake-ichidan verbs and keep in mind the two types of verbs and what defines them. Just like you would do with i-adj.. It's easier to memorize that adjectives ended in "ei" are actually na-adj (Ex: kirei, yuumei and so on). The same applies to rendaku in counting (in a different way, but it does).

Well, there seems to be more godan verbs ending in "iru/eru than I expected, nevertheless ichidan verbs are much much more. I don't know all of such godan verbs, but anyway here are some of them adding Tony-san's list.
iru: godan
煎る (iru - roast for coffee beans and nuts etc)
ねじる (nejiru - twist)
混じる (majiru - be mixed)
eru: godan
焦る (aseru - be upset)
茂る (shigeru - grow thick)
しゃべる (shaberu - talk, chat)
照る (teru - shine about sun)
練る (neru - knead)
減る (heru - decrease)
