What I am doing for languages!!!! 1 Year ago
Hi all ^_^

I am just generally excited about my endeavors, so I think I will share with you guys what I am doing for language learning.

you all must know I love languages. I am nearly obsessed with them and other cultures and stuff. More often an not these languages are dead, or enigmatic, but nevertheless I like any.

It is my goal (at least until I am around 50) to NOT be at a point in my life where I am NOT learning a language. That doesn't mean just one But yeah.

Well, no further digressions, ne?

Right now I am learning Japanese and American Sign Language! It is very fun. I probably spend an average of 4 hours a day on both of them collectively Once I get to a good stand point on both of them (not fluent, but being able to converse semi-well and stuff) I am going to tackle Latin The time I start will most likely be in a year. If my current languages go very well, it will be around a half a year.

I am going to buy the Rosetta Stone package for Latin levels 1, 2 and 3. It will be $500, but will be much worth it.

So, yeah! I want to learn Gaelic, Sanskrit, German (not a LOT on my list, but yeah) of course Latin, and probably Greek.

Just excited about all of what I'm doing, and yeah!

Aldrian-san,

No need to stop at 50. (Boku wa 54sai desu.)

My list is different from yours. I learned some French back in high school, and I really need to learn enough Spanish to talk to Spanish speakers in Florida who don't speak English well.

Apart from that, I have studied some Mandarin Chinese and want to learn a lot more, as well as learning Korean, which has some grammatical similarities to Japanese.

Latin, Greek and German are all on my list, too, but the East Asian languages excite me more, simply because they are so different from English. There is also a lot of classical literature I would like to be able to read in those languages.

Ganbarou, ne.

Tony-san

Make sure you note I said at least 50 I probably don't plan on stopping. Just that I am 18 now, and I still have 32 years. So yeah XD

I really like east Asian languages as well, but I'm kind of a history guy, too. Latin, Greek, Sanksrit and like Gaelic are so much more interesting and rich to me.

Latin is English's ancient language, while Gaelic is Irish's ancient language. Sanskrit is said (if I recall correctly) to be like the first language or something (written and spoken and stuff). Again, I am not quite sure, but I have heard about it

I may learn some more Eastern languages later on, once I get my list done with

arigatou,
Mike

Ahh, it's wonderful to see people going out of their, usually, comfort zone to learn so many languages. I'm fifteen, and during the summer, such as now, I spend anywhere from 2-4 hours a day on Japanese. I'm also during the school year a French student and going into my third year of it, I have it done decently when it comes to translation and reading, but writing and speaking always aren't easy task for me.

After I get French and Japanese out of the way, I'm going after German, Itlaian, possibly Spanish due to the world we live today, and Latin, I know some small basics to that. I would love to learn Dutch, due to family being out there.

I have so many I want to learn. ^^

Awesome

I wish I would have started when I was 15 :/

That's usually what I spend on ASL and Japanese. I don't do as much ASL because it doesn't take too much to study since I am in a once-a-week class.

Off to continue studying now
